Al-Mansur Abdallah ibn Hamza

1166–1217 · 12th century

Al-Mansur Abdallah ibn Hamza was Zaydi imam of Yemen from 1187 to 1217 and one of the most prolific Zaydi scholars. He revived the imamate in the northern highlands and fought the Ayyubid rulers of Yemen. He also harshly suppressed the Mutarrifiyya, a dissident Zaydi sect, and his many writings shaped later Zaydi doctrine.
