Al-Mutawakkil Yahya Sharaf al-Din
Al-Mutawakkil Yahya Sharaf al-Din was Zaydi imam of Yemen from 1506 to 1555. After the fall of the Tahirid sultanate he expanded the imamate from the northern highlands, taking Sanaa and much of the south. From 1538 Ottoman forces conquered much of Yemen, and his later years were troubled by quarrels with his son al-Mutahhar, who led the resistance.
