Alain Bouchart
Alain Bouchart was a Breton lawyer and chronicler who served Duke Francis II and Duchess Anne of Brittany. His Grandes Croniques de Bretaigne, printed in Paris in 1514, told the history of Brittany from its legendary origins and presented it as an ancient kingdom equal to France. Widely read, it shaped the Breton sense of a separate past.
