Alaungsithu

c. 1090–1167 · 12th century · Also known as Sithu I

Alaungsithu, also known as Sithu I, was king of Pagan from about 1112 to 1167 and the grandson and successor of Kyansittha. His long reign was a period of internal peace and prosperity, during which he travelled widely in his realm, is credited with standardising weights and measures, and built the Thatbyinnyu, the tallest temple at Pagan. Tradition holds that he was killed by his son Narathu.
