Person
Shin Chapata
Shin Chapata was a Buddhist monk of the Pagan Kingdom who was ordained in Sri Lanka in the Mahavihara tradition and returned to Pagan around 1190 with four other monks. With the support of King Narapatisithu they founded a Sinhalese order of monks, which divided the Burmese sangha but strengthened links with Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhism. The Chapata pagoda at Pagan is attributed to him.
