Narapatisithu

1150–1211 · 12th century · Also known as Sithu II

Narapatisithu, also known as Sithu II, was king of Pagan from 1174 to 1211, a reign often seen as the height of the kingdom. He restored stability after a period of violent successions, organised a palace guard, supported the reform of the monastic order by monks ordained in Sri Lanka, and built the Sulamani temple. Burmese increasingly replaced Mon as the main written language under his rule.
