Person
Pyinbya
Pyinbya was an early king of Pagan who, according to the Burmese chronicles, reigned in the mid-ninth century and fortified the city in 849 on a bend of the Irrawaddy River. Little else is known of him, and modern historians treat the early chronicle dates with caution, but the date of 849 has long been taken as the traditional founding of Pagan as a walled city.
