Albert II, Duke of Austria

1298–1358 · 14th century · Also known as Albert II of Austria, Albert the Lame

Albert II, called the Lame or the Wise, was a Habsburg duke of Austria from 1330 to 1358. He added Carinthia and Carniola to the family's lands in 1335 and governed through a long period of peace in Austria. In the west he opposed the growing Swiss Confederacy, besieging Zürich in 1351–1354 after it had joined the confederates, without success.
