Alexandra Feodorovna (Alix of Hesse)
Alexandra Feodorovna (1872–1918), born Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine, was the last Empress of Russia as wife of Tsar Nicholas II. A granddaughter of Queen Victoria, she married Nicholas in 1894. Her reliance on the mystic Grigori Rasputin, who seemed to ease her son Alexei's haemophilia, damaged the monarchy during the First World War. She was killed with her family by the Bolsheviks at Yekaterinburg in July 1918.
