Ali ibn Rashid
Ali ibn Rashid was a sharif of the Banu Rashid who founded Chefchaouen in the Rif mountains of Morocco in 1471. He built it as a fortified base for holy war against the Portuguese enclaves around Ceuta and Ksar es-Seghir, and it became a refuge for Muslims and Jews from Granada.
