Ali ibn Yusuf

r. 1106–1143 · 12th century

Ali ibn Yusuf was the Almoravid ruler from 1106 to 1143, son of Yusuf ibn Tashfin. He presided over the empire at its greatest extent, including al-Andalus, and supported building and religious scholarship. His reign also saw growing Christian pressure in Iberia and the rise of the Almohad movement, which began the Almoravids' decline.
