Ankobra River

The Ankobra is a river in the Western Region of Ghana that flows south to the Gulf of Guinea near Axim. Its basin, like that of the neighbouring Pra, is rich in alluvial gold, which sustained the Wassa state and drew European traders to forts on the nearby coast. Gold mining, both industrial and small-scale, still takes place along its course.
