Denkyira
Denkyira was an Akan state in what is now southern Ghana that dominated the region in the seventeenth century, holding the Asante as tributaries. Its defeat by the Asante under Osei Tutu at the Battle of Feyiase in 1701 marked the emergence of the Ashanti Empire as the leading power of the region.
