Kumasi
Kumasi is a city in present-day Ghana and was the capital of the Ashanti Empire. It was the seat of the Asantehene and the Golden Stool, and the centre of the empire's government and trade. The city was occupied by British forces during the Anglo-Ashanti wars, and its capture marked the empire's loss of independence.
