Ankole Agreement
The Ankole Agreement was signed in 1901 between Britain and the king and chiefs of Ankole in present-day south-western Uganda. Modelled on the Buganda Agreement of 1900, it confirmed the mugabe and his chiefs under British protection, fixed the kingdom's boundaries and added neighbouring states such as Mpororo, Igara and Buhweju, creating the district that later formed the core of the country's south-west.
