Mbarara
Mbarara is the largest city of south-western Uganda and the historic headquarters of the Kingdom of Ankole. The British set up their district administration there around 1900, and it became the centre of Ankole district and a market town for the region's cattle-keeping and farming economy. It was granted city status in 2020 and is home to the Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
