Nuwa Mbaguta
Nuwa Mbaguta was the enganzi, or chief minister, of Ankole in the early colonial period. He backed the young Kahaya II in the succession conflict after Ntare V's death in 1895 and signed the Ankole Agreement of 1901 with the British. Working closely with colonial officials, he built a hierarchy of county and sub-county chiefs modelled on Buganda's, making him the most powerful figure in the kingdom for decades.
