Mbashe River
The Mbashe River, formerly called the Bashee, flows south-east through the Eastern Cape of South Africa to the Indian Ocean. In Xhosa tradition the land between the Mbashe and the Kei was the core of the territory where the royal Tshawe lineage asserted supremacy over other clans. In the colonial period it formed one of the boundaries of the Transkei region.
