Ankober
Ankober is a town in the highlands of North Shewa in central Ethiopia, on the edge of the escarpment above the Afar lowlands. From the 18th century it was the capital of the rulers of Shewa, and under Sahle Selassie in the 19th century it received British and French diplomatic missions. Its importance faded after Menelik II moved his court south, eventually founding Addis Ababa.
