Debre Berhan

Debre Berhan is a town in the highlands of North Shewa, Ethiopia, north-east of Addis Ababa. It was founded by Emperor Zara Yaqob in the 1450s after a miraculous light was said to have appeared there, and served as his capital. In the 19th century it was again a royal residence of the kings of Shewa.
