Aomori Prefecture

Aomori Prefecture is the northernmost prefecture of Honshu, Japan, with its capital at Aomori, facing Hokkaido across the Tsugaru Strait. It was formed in 1871 from the Hirosaki domain of the Tsugaru and part of the lands of their old rivals, the Nanbu. It is known for its apples and for the Jōmon site of Sannai-Maruyama.
