643–670 CE · 7th century · Part of the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb

The Arab conquest of the Fezzan was the series of Muslim Arab campaigns into the Fezzan region of south-western Libya between 643 and 670 CE. Expeditions, including that associated with Uqba ibn Nafi, subdued the oases and imposed tribute. The conquest marked the end of the Garamantian Empire's independence.
