Attic standard

Also known as Attic silver standard

The Attic standard was the weight standard for silver coinage originating in Athens, based on a tetradrachm of about 17 grams. Alexander the Great adopted it for his coinage, and it became the common standard of the Hellenistic world. The Seleucid Empire minted its silver coins on the Attic standard, which facilitated trade across its territories.
