Aude (river)

The Aude is a river in southern France, about 224 km long. It rises in the eastern Pyrenees and flows north through Quillan and Limoux to Carcassonne, then east to the Mediterranean near Narbonne. In antiquity its valley and the Garonne formed a trade route across Gaul between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. It gave its name to the Aude department.
