Aundh Experiment
The Aundh Experiment was a trial of village self-government in the princely state of Aundh, in western India, launched in 1938 by its ruler Bhawanrao Pant Pratinidhi. On the advice of Mahatma Gandhi, the raja handed most powers to elected village panchayats and a state assembly under a constitution drafted by Maurice Frydman. It lasted until Aundh's merger into India in 1948.
