Bhawanrao Pant Pratinidhi
Bhawanrao Pant Pratinidhi was the Raja of Aundh, a small Maratha state near Satara, from 1909 to 1947. A painter and patron of the arts, he did much to popularise the surya namaskar exercise. In 1938, with advice from Mahatma Gandhi, he introduced the Aundh Experiment, a constitution giving villages self-government, one of the earliest experiments in democratic rule in a princely state.
