Satara
Satara is a city in western Maharashtra, India, near the confluence of the Krishna and Venna rivers, overlooked by the hill fort of Ajinkyatara. In the 18th century it was the seat of the Maratha Chhatrapatis from Shahu onwards, while real power passed to the Peshwas at Pune. After 1818 it was the capital of the Satara state until its annexation by the British in 1848.
