Chhatrapati
Chhatrapati was the royal title adopted by Shivaji at his coronation in 1674, meaning lord of the parasol, a symbol of sovereignty. It was held by Shivaji and his successors as rulers of the Maratha state. Later, real power in the Maratha Empire passed to the Peshwas, while the Chhatrapati remained the nominal sovereign.
