Bagrati Cathedral

c. 1003 · 11th century

Bagrati Cathedral is an eleventh-century cathedral in Kutaisi, western Georgia, built under Bagrat III, the first king of united Georgia, and completed in the early 1000s. It was a masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture until an explosion during the Ottoman invasion of 1692 ruined it. Controversially restored in 2012, it is a symbol of Georgian unity.
