Person
Baldwin II of Constantinople
Baldwin II was the last Latin Emperor of Constantinople, from 1228. His shrinking empire was almost bankrupt, and he travelled the West seeking help, selling relics such as the Crown of Thorns to Louis IX of France and pawning his son to Venetian merchants. He fled when the Nicaean Greeks recaptured Constantinople in July 1261.
