Ballana

Ballana is an archaeological site in Lower Nubia on the west bank of the Nile, in southern Egypt, now under Lake Nasser. Excavations by Walter Emery in the 1930s uncovered large burial mounds of rulers of the 4th to 6th centuries CE, with silver crowns, weapons and sacrificed horses and servants. The site gave its name to the Ballana culture, associated with the kingdom of Nobadia.
