Ballenstedt
Ballenstedt is a small town on the northern edge of the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Its castle stands on the site of an early medieval monastery associated with the first Ascanian counts, the ancestors of the house of Anhalt. In the 18th and 19th centuries the castle was the main residence of the princes and dukes of Anhalt-Bernburg, who also built a court theatre in the town.
