Banu Gómez

10th–11th centuries · 10th century

The Banu Gómez were a powerful noble family of the Kingdom of León, counts of Saldaña, Carrión and Liébana on the upper Carrión river. Descended from Count Diego Muñoz, they often rebelled against the Leonese kings and at times allied with Almanzor of Córdoba in the late tenth century. Their power faded in the eleventh century, when Carrión passed to other families.
