Bardi family

The Bardi were a Florentine family of merchant-bankers whose company was one of the largest in 14th-century Europe, with branches from London to the Levant. With the Peruzzi they lent heavily to Edward III of England for his war with France and to the kings of Naples. When Edward defaulted, the Bardi company collapsed in 1346, part of a wider Florentine banking crisis.
