Batoche

Batoche is a Métis settlement on the South Saskatchewan River in present-day Saskatchewan, Canada, founded in the early 1870s. In March 1885 Louis Riel proclaimed his provisional government there, and in May 1885 General Frederick Middleton's forces defeated the Métis under Gabriel Dumont in the Battle of Batoche, ending the North-West Resistance. The site is a national historic site of Canada.
