Battle of Vimy Ridge
The Battle of Vimy Ridge, fought on 9–12 April 1917 in northern France as part of the Battle of Arras, was the first attack in which all four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought together. They captured the heavily fortified ridge at a cost of some 10,600 casualties. The victory became a symbol of Canadian nationhood, commemorated by the Canadian National Vimy Memorial unveiled in 1936.
