Battle of Chakirmaut

1204 · 13th century

The Battle of Chakirmaut was fought in 1204 in western Mongolia between Temüjin, the future Genghis Khan, and the Naimans under Tayang Khan, who were joined by Jamukha and other opponents of Temüjin. Temüjin's army won decisively, and Tayang Khan was mortally wounded. The victory destroyed the Naiman khanate as an independent power and removed the last major rival to Temüjin on the Mongolian steppe, two years before he was proclaimed Genghis Khan.
