Battle of Dayr al-Aqul
The Battle of Dayr al-Aqul was fought in 876 on the Tigris south-east of Baghdad. The Abbasid regent al-Muwaffaq defeated the Saffarid ruler Ya'qub ibn al-Layth, who was marching on Baghdad, after flooding the ground in front of his army. The defeat ended Ya'qub's attempt to take Iraq, and he withdrew to Khuzistan, where he died in 879.
