676 · 7th century · Part of the Silla–Tang War

The Battle of Gibeolpo was a naval battle fought in 676 near the mouth of the Geum River in western Korea between Silla and Tang China. After an initial defeat, the Silla fleet under Sideuk won a series of engagements against the Tang. The victory ended the Silla–Tang War, and Tang withdrew its protectorate from Pyongyang to Liaodong, leaving Silla master of the peninsula south of the Taedong River.
