Battle of Kharistan

737 · 8th century · Part of the Muslim conquest of Transoxiana

The Battle of Kharistan was fought in December 737 in Guzgan, in present-day northern Afghanistan. The Umayyad governor of Khurasan, Asad ibn Abdallah al-Qasri, surprised the Turgesh khagan Suluk and his allies as they raided south of the Oxus and defeated them. The loss destroyed Suluk's prestige, he was murdered by a rival soon after, and the Turgesh fell into civil war, ending their threat to Arab Transoxiana.
