Battle of Näfels

1388 · 14th century

The Battle of Näfels was fought on 9 April 1388 in the canton of Glarus, where the men of Glarus, with help from Schwyz, defeated a much larger Habsburg army. Following the Swiss victory at Sempach in 1386, it secured the independence of Glarus from Habsburg rule. It is commemorated every April by the Näfelser Fahrt procession.
