Battle of Pokarwis

1261 · 13th century · Part of the Prussian Crusade

The Battle of Pokarwis was fought in January 1261 in Natangia, Prussia, during the Great Prussian Uprising against the Teutonic Order. Prussian forces led by Herkus Monte defeated an army of the Order and crusaders that had come to relieve its besieged castles. The victory strengthened the rebellion, which the Order needed until 1274 to suppress.
