Battle of Polvoraria

878 · 9th century · Part of the Reconquista

The Battle of Polvoraria was fought in 878 near the confluence of the Órbigo and Esla rivers in León, where the forces of Alfonso III of Asturias defeated an army of the emir Muhammad I of Córdoba. Together with the capture of Coimbra the same year, the victory strengthened the Asturian frontier on the Douro and was followed by a truce with Córdoba.
