Reconquista
The Reconquista refers to the centuries-long series of campaigns by Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula to conquer the territories ruled by Muslims, completed with the fall of Granada in 1492. The Almoravid Empire and the Almohad Caliphate intervened in al-Andalus to resist it. Its completion and crusading ethos shaped the early Spanish Empire.
