Recôncavo
The Recôncavo is the fertile coastal region surrounding the Bay of All Saints in the Brazilian state of Bahia. From the 16th century it was covered with sugar plantations and tobacco farms worked by enslaved Africans, which made it one of the richest parts of colonial Brazil. Towns such as Cachoeira and Santo Amaro keep a strong Afro-Brazilian culture.
