Battle of Fraga

1134 · 12th century · Part of the Reconquista

The Battle of Fraga was fought in July 1134 when an Almoravid relief army defeated Alfonso I of Aragon, who was besieging the town of Fraga on the Cinca. Alfonso escaped but died a few weeks later, leaving his kingdom by will to the military orders. The will was set aside, and the crisis led to the separation of Navarre from Aragon and the recall of his brother Ramiro II from the cloister.
