Battle of Cutanda

1120 · 12th century · Part of the Reconquista

The Battle of Cutanda was fought in June 1120 near Calamocha in Aragon, where Alfonso I of Aragon, aided by southern French lords, defeated an Almoravid army sent to recover Zaragoza. The victory secured his conquest of the Ebro valley and opened the way to the capture of Calatayud and Daroca. It was one of the heaviest Almoravid defeats in Iberia.
