Battle of Ourique
The Battle of Ourique was fought in 1139 in the south of present-day Portugal, where Afonso Henriques defeated Muslim forces. The victory became the traditional founding moment of the independent Kingdom of Portugal. The site lists it among the reverses on the northern Iberian front that weakened the Almoravid Empire during its decline.
