Battle of Oudenarde

1708 · 18th century · Also known as Oudenarde · Part of the War of the Spanish Succession

The Battle of Oudenarde was fought on 11 July 1708 on the Scheldt in the Spanish Netherlands, where an allied army under the Duke of Marlborough and Prince Eugene of Savoy defeated a French army under the Dukes of Burgundy and Vendôme. The victory let the allies recover the initiative in Flanders and besiege the fortress of Lille, which fell later that year.
