Battle of Uclés (1108)

1108 · 12th century · Part of the Reconquista

The Battle of Uclés was fought on 29 May 1108 near Uclés in central Spain. An Almoravid army under Tamim ibn Yusuf defeated a Castilian-Leonese force, and Sancho Alfónsez, the only son and heir of Alfonso VI, was killed. The Almoravids then took a line of frontier fortresses south of the Tagus, and the succession crisis that followed weakened Castile-León.
